Tarzana property owners should be aware of two important California state laws requiring safety inspections for certain multi-unit buildings. These Balcony Inspection Laws apply to structures that: (i) contain three or more residential units; (ii) include Exterior Elevated Elements (EEEs) such as balconies, decks, porches, stairways, or walkways made of wood or wood-based materials; and (iii) have EEEs located six feet or more above the ground.
These regulations — California SB 721 and SB 326 — apply to buildings in Tarzana and surrounding areas. If you own a qualifying property, staying compliant means ensuring timely inspections and addressing any safety concerns before they become costly liabilities.
