Residents of Granada Hills woke up by a 3.6 magnitude earthquake late Tuesday night. The quake struck at 11:41 p.m., with moderate shaking felt throughout the San Fernando Valley and neighboring Los Angeles.

Other accounts of quakes have come from residents of Santa Monica, Marina del Rey, Los Feliz, Silver Lake, Hollywood Hills, downtown Los Angeles, Santa Clarita, Ventura County and San Gabriel Valley.

While no initial reports of damage or injury were made, the Los Angeles Fire Department patrolled the affected areas with vehicles and helicopters following the shaking, which is a normal practice in Los Angeles.

The epicenter of the quake was the Van Norman Lakes Reservoir in Granada Hills, situated near the intersection of the 405, 5 and 118 motorways.

This is not the first time the Granada Hills reservoir has been struck by an earthquake, but in 1971 the dam was repaired after a 6.6 earthquake near Sylmar collapsed. The replacement suffered a 6.7 Northridge earthquake in 1994.

When you live in California, you know it’s not a question of “when” the Big One is going to happen as much as “when.” That’s why it’s so important to take all the necessary precautions when it comes to earthquake protection.

Apart from getting an earthquake relief kit in your household with enough food, water and medicine to last for every person and pet in your home for at least three days, it’s vital to have your property checked for any earthquake vulnerabilities.

If you own an older property, seismic renovation is a necessary safeguard to protect those who reside there and to maintain the value of your home.

At Weinstein Construction, we will help you find the best solution to your seismic and foundational needs.

No matter what your foundation situation is, we will conduct a (free) comprehensive home inspection, followed by a thorough consultation, and at the conclusion of our chat, we will provide you with a quote for repairs.
