WEST HOLLYWOOD — The City of West Hollywood is now part of the state-wide incentive program created by the California Residential Mitigation Program to help homeowners reduce the cost of seismic home retrofits.
According to the City of West Hollywood website, the Earthquake Brace + Bolt (EBB) has been extended to include West Hollywood and the residence owners in the following zip codes: 90046, 90048 and 90069. Homeowners will be eligible for an incentive payment of up to $3,000 to help with the costs of earthquake damage.
Those interested in registering for the EBB program may do so from Wednesday, 20 January. Registration will be available to homeowners in the area for one month. Once it is finished, homeowners who qualify will be randomly selected by random drawing. When chosen, they will be told that they have been picked or put on a waiting list.
“Residential seismic refurbishment strengthens older homes, making them more resistant to incurring earthquake damage. This is achieved by bolting the house to its base in order to improve the link between the wooden frame and the concrete framework, and by inserting plywood bracing around the edge of the crawling area to keep the house from falling off its foundation, “says Weho.org.
The incentive program follows on from the announcement made by the City of West Hollywood in December 2015 regarding its detailed seismic building survey. The survey consists of cataloging the existing building inventory to help the City make decisions on its seismic retrofit plan. The survey will run until February 2016.
The EBB program is part of the California Residential Mitigation Program (CRMP), a joint exercise of powers between its members, the California Earthquake (CEA) and the Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES).
