Dear clients and friends:
I hope this letter finds you and your family healthy and safe! As many of you know, a number of times a year I send you a letter with heartfelt holiday blessings. I typically try not to send too many letters but after what we’ve all seen in the past ten days, I felt like I simply had to write to you again.
Like many of you, I’ve been watching the heartbreaking events unfolding in Ukraine with increasing distress. How is it possible that this part of the world, which has seen so much sorrow in the past 100 years, has to now endure yet another catastrophe? As I write this letter, more than 1,500,000 Ukrainian women, children, and elderly, have fled their homes in haste, with nothing but a few belongings in a small case or a plastic bag…
Here’s just one example: I was anguished to watch on the news an elderly Ukrainian woman from Irpin, an 86-year-old great-grandmother, fleeing heavy fighting, trying to cross a bombed bridge over a raging river, with just a walking stick! When she finally got to the other side of the bridge, a journalist watching her was so overcome with emotion, she hugged the elderly woman and tried to help her. This is just too much…
The vast majority of these poor souls don’t know where they are going or what will happen to them when they get there. They’re not sure whether or not their loved ones back home will survive. They have no idea when they’ll ever be able to return to their homeland. This is unimaginable in the 21ˢᵗ Century, and yet, here we are again!
Is there anything any of us can do to help? I hope so! I ask you to please join me in finding a way – any way at all – to lend a hand to some of these refugees. For example, you can visit www.charitywatch.org which lists many legitimate charities aiding Ukrainian citizens right now.
